There are few better ways to show your competence than with past work experience. If you can show that you have worked as a manager in the past, or even better, as a branch manager – this will automatically tell the recruiter or hiring manager that you know what to expect from the job.

Few defined what would be considered relevant, so anything related to banking, management and leadership tends to look great on a branch manager resume.

If you have had a long career, then you can single out the most relevant work experience. The reason for this is that the business changes and the hiring manager might not be too impressed by a job you had 40 years ago.

Study.com cites the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics when stating that it is necessary to have a Bachelor’s degree for a branch manager position, preferably in finance, business administration, accounting or similar.

Having a degree not only looks good on your resume, but it prepares you for all the administrative work that comes with a management position.

An irrelevant bachelor’s degree is still better than no bachelor’s degree, and you can easily compensate with an abundant skill section or with adequate work experience.

During our research, we looked at both branch manager resumes and job posts for branch managers, and approximately 45% of the resumes included a master’s degree, while slightly fewer job posts required it.

There is no requirement for a branch manager to be licensed or certified, but having certification is an advantage when applying for a job and in order to do an excellent job once hired. 

You can obtain CFP certification through the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, or opt for a CPA certification which includes an exam and is issued by each individual state.
