Assistant property manager work experience
Getting a job in property management without work experience can be difficult, as hiring managers will likely look for someone they can rely on. The responsibilities that come with the position are important enough to require someone truly qualified.
As an assistant property manager, you may not take on quite as much responsibility as a property manager, but work experience is equally important in many cases.
That said, you don’t necessarily need experience managing property, and there are other past jobs you can list that will highlight important transferable skills.
We turned to the popular job site Monster, where it is mentioned that 1-3 years of management experience tends to be required for property manager jobs, and we can assume the requirements are somewhat less for a property manager assistant.
Taking this into consideration – any management experience is good to list, along with team leader roles and jobs demonstrating leadership skills.

Assistant property manager education
To obtain a job as an assistant property manager, you usually need to have a High School diploma or a GED to list on your resume. Some employers may also prefer to hire someone with a Bachelor’s degree, but in our research process we noticed that this seemed to apply more to property managers.
We sampled 16 job posts for this article, and while some did express a preference for a university degree, most assistant property manager posts mentioned only a High School diploma.
When you list your educational achievements on your resume, make sure you include only what is relevant. If you have a college- or university degree, then you do not need to list your High School diploma.

When we sampled real resumes, we could determine that few included courses, but that those that lacked in work experience or education often did include relevant coursework.
Taking a course to boost your resume is a great idea, and many courses are available online, and even for free! You can list courses directly related to property management, but also leadership courses, business courses and those related to marketing.
Avoid listing courses that would not be relevant for the job, as being a certified yoga instructor probably won’t be useful when managing property.

When going into property management, whether that be as an assistant or an actual property manager, you could consider obtaining a CPM license. A CPM license, which entails a certain number of hours of real estate experience and more.
There are also additional certifications available for property managers, like NALP, MPM and CAM. Licensing isn’t usually required, especially not for an assistant property manager, but if you have it – include it.
Most US states do require property managers to be licensed, but these rules generally do not apply for entry-level professionals that work under the supervision of a senior manager.
When we sampled job posts and resumes, most assistant property managers were not certified, while property managers often were.
